Battery Replacement

Models: ALL, Years: ALL

The Pinz uses standard European 12V batteries but for offroad use there are better choices today. The new AGM batteries can be operated in any position, don’t leak or gas out and keep their charge over a long time. There’s only one drawback: most of them do not come in the same size as the original batteries and the holder for the batteries doesn’t work well on a different size.

For a Pinz owner this isn’t a real problem. Just add a few pieces and it works better then original and it doesn’t require to make any permanent modifications to the truck.

The original design. Note that the “ears” prevent that the batteries can be pulled out as the door straps are in the way.

Detail view from front side:

Bottom view of the plywood part. The center piece keeps the batteries apart. The slots are for the original holder.

The modified “ears”. Now the battery pack can be pulled out without interference with the door straps.

The pieces were assembled using TiteBond III and further strengthened with stainless steel screws. The ends were covered with fibreglass tape and the whole thing was given two coats of epoxy resin.
