Chain Repair

If you run chains much, sooner or later you’ll have to repair a broken one in the field. |
|
|
STEP 1: Use a repair link to join both ends of the broken chain (you may have to use more then one.). |
|
|
STEP 2: Squeeze both ends of the repair link(s) with a pliers. Arc Joint or Vice Grips work best. |
|
|
Finished Repair. (not a thing of beauty but it’ll get you home) Note uncut spacer between repair links. |

Making repair links
|
|
Here are the tools you’ll need. If you don’t have a bolt cutter a hacksaw will work just fine. Chain size is 2/0. |
|
|
Cut the chain link at the weld. (The weld is the weakest part of the link.) |
|
|
Rotate the two cut ends of the link apart approximately 45 degrees by twisting them in opposite direction. |
