Wiper

Most parts of the Pinz are quite rugged but there are some exceptions. One of them are the gears in the wiper motor. This might be a good  time to mention a few easily remedied maintenance related checks to avoid costly failures.

Do not allow the wipers to hit the weatherstrip, this will eventually strip out the fine gears inside the wiper motor.
Regularly check the wiper spindles for partial seizure.
Do this by disconnecting the internal link with a suitable flat instrument. Over time this "drag" will cause excessive mechanical strain on the system and tear out those fine gears I mentioned or overheat the motor section.

The supply of the phenolic internal gear is getting short and it’s a pitty if you have to buy an expensive new assembly and trash the otherwise good motor!

IAftermarket Delrin replacement gears are available now which let you “recycle” your wiper motor. Delrin is a much tougher material then the phenolic used in the original gear.
