Swiss License Plates

The pictures of the Swiss military plates and the following information
came on 3.25.02 from Markus Inkamp, Webmaster of the Swiss Military Truck Drivers Organization of St.Gall in Oberland/Graubünden, Switzerland.

The link to the English language version of the group's website is: http://www.mmvsgogr.ch/Others/start_en.htm

The gist of the email he sent along with the graphics follows:

Hello Mr. Fink:

The graphic file is a compilation of all license plates and other identification markings ever used by the Swiss military. The Pinzgauers had (and have still) numbers of the "middle" generation.  The 710M Pinzgauers have numbers in the area of 37'000 to 37'999 (with few exceptions, Radio and Command Pinzgauers had other ones); the 712M (6X6) had numbers between 38'000 and 38'999.
I do not know the exact sizes of the plates; I'll have to measure them.  I have received another request from the USA concerning these license plates.  I will be taking another course shortly and then I can measure everything.  I will take photos of Pinzgauers from the front and rear and will send them to you via email.
On the front left - that is the unit identification, an aluminum plate (blank) with letters and numbers which are painted on using stencils (see the attached photo).  The color is black and is removable with gasoline.  I do not know the system of unit identification and therefore do not know exactly what the individual combinations of letters signify. I only have photos on which various combinations are recognizable.

Soon (around April 20th, 2002) you'll get another email from me with all details.

Many greetings from Switzerland.
Markus Inkamp, Webmaster MMV SGO-GR
